Peyton Manning Would Be Interested In Playing With Houston Texans

As the Peyton Manning saga continues, a new team has emerged in the Manning sweepstakes. It seems all but official that the Indianapolis Colts will cut Manning loose early in March, before the team is due to owe him an $8 million bonus. The team that could be catapulted to the front of the race for Manning? The Houston Texans.

Per Bob Allen of KTRK-TV in Houston:

"“Someone I know who is close friends with the Manning family says Peyton is definitely interested in possibly coming to the Texans.  Peyton will be released by the Colts early next month and will be a free agent.  The person who knows the Mannings says Peyton wants to play on a team that has a chance of going to a Super Bowl, and the Texans fit that description.”"

The Texans make a lot of sense for Manning. He wants to play for a contender and Houston is definitely in the mix. Their defense has improved leaps and bounds, they have one of the top rushing attacks in the NFL and Andre Johnson is the best wide receiver in the game when healthy.

How could Manning not want to play for that team?

Of course, there is Matt Schaub. However, he is entering a contract year and returning from a Lisfranc injury, which is never welcomed by a professional athlete. There is potential that Schaub could not be 100% so even if Manning is short of 100%, that is a better option than Schaub.

Manning could push the Texans over the top and really put them in position to make a serious run at Super Bowl XLVII.
