NFL Draft 2012: Robert Griffin III Scouting Report

Player: Robert Griffin III
Position: Quarterback
School: Baylor
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 220-pounds

Positives: Very quick release, stands confidently in pocket and isn’t afraid to take hits, Amazing athleticism, Speed and quickness similar to Michael Vick but is definitely a “pass first” quarterback, won 2011 Heisman while throwing for 4,293 yards, 72.4%, and 37 TDs, accuracy is second to none and has arm strength to make all the throws, extremely exciting player to watch, smart and poised in the pocket but when he decides to run watch out. Leader.

Negatives: Played primarily out of the shotgun, footwork could be more under control, benefited from pass happy offense, very passionate and actions border on excessive celebration at times, carries ball away from body when running.

Draft Grade: Top 10

Overview: RG3 was in a league of his own this past season and to reinforce that fact, won the Heisman trophy. He took the college football world by storm with his amazing passing efficiency when passing, and freakish athletic ability on run plays. The downfall of most mobile quarterbacks — Michael Vick, Vince Young, Tarvaris Jackson, etc. — is lack of throwing accuracy. This is not the case with Griffin. He’s effective at putting the ball right where only his receiver can get it on anything from quick slant routes to deep sideline bombs. RG3 should be able to step right in and fill a starting spot.
