NFL Draft 2012: Jonathan Martin Scouting Report

Player: Jonathan Martin
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: Stanford
Height: 6-foot-6
Weight: 304 lbs

Positives: Quick feet, good pass protector, responsible to protecting Andrew Luck’s blindside, great height and size, athletically built, keeps arms cocked until delivering punch, really goes all out on run blocking, readjusts hands inside well, great technician, keeps wide base at all times, works up to second level well, does good job on reach blocks.

Negatives: Needs to be stronger when making contact, handles edge rushers well but gets beat inside at times, gets shucked by defenders sometimes, leans and lowers head too much.

Draft Grade: Top 20

Overview: Martin might have had the most stressful job in college football this past year, protecting golden boy Andrew Luck’s blindside. With that being said, he did a great job of it and cemented himself among the top offensive tackles in this class. With Mike Adams’ stock rising all throughout Senior Bowl week, it will be interesting to see which of these guys is the 3rd OT off the board. Wherever he goes, Martin will be a dependable blocker for years to come.
