While speaking with media at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill commented on where he would like to spend his future. One team that he would love to play for currently employs his former head coach, Mike Sherman. That team is the Miami Dolphins.
“Miami would be exciting because of the familiarity with coach Sherman and some of the staff hired down there,” Tannehill said. “It would be nice. Coach Sherman runs a West Coast offense as well as moving the pocket, and that’s a couple things I do well: throw on the run, bootlegs, whatever it may be to get outside the pocket and make throws downfield. I like what he did.”
The familiarity between Tannehill and Sherman would be great for the Dolphins. They could have a young quarterback with upside that is in an offense he used to run in college. That would help Tannehill develop at a quicker rate than some of the other rookie signal-callers.
Is 8th overall a little high to select Tannehill? It could be, but he is the third-ranked quarterback prospect and if the Dolphins feel he is their guy, they should pull the trigger.
