Sources tell CBS’ Clark Judge that New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham is on his way out, saying there is “virtually no chance” he re-signs with the Super Bowl Champs.
Manningham, who had the catch that defined Super Bowl XLVI, is now allegedly headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The move makes sense. Former Giants QB Coach Mike Sullivan is now Offensive Coordinator in Tampa and the team has a lot of cap room. Furthermore, the Buccaneerss are in need of a wide receiver who is a vertical threat — something that certainly fits Manningham’s style.
If they were to sign Manningham, this would also signal the Bucs think they will miss out on rookie Justin Blackmon in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Buccaneers have the fifth-overall pick and, should they miss out on Blackmon, they are currently projected to get either Alabama running back Trent Richardson or LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne.
