Tebow Tells Friends He Wants To Go Home To Florida
By Josh Sanchez
With the addition of Peyton Manning in Denver, it is all but certain that the Broncos will be trading or releasing Tim Tebow in the coming weeks. A team that is always mentioned as a potential landing spot for Tebow is the Jacksonville Jaguars, so that the Heisman Trophy winner could return to the city he grew up in and nearby Gainesville, where he was became a college legend.
If there is ever a place that Tebow could breathe new life into his NFL career, it would be Jacksonville or potentially the Miami Dolphins.
Tebow has known for quite some time that he would likely be on the outs this offseason if the team got Peyton Manning. He even discussed the possibility with some friends last week and he expressed his desire to return to Florida. At least that is the story according to Monica Culpepper, who is the wife of Tebow’s friend Brad Culpepper.
"“Brad and I just had dinner with Tim last week and I don’t think this comes as a shock or surprise to him that Manning was actually going to go there,” Culpepper said. “And in all honesty, Tim said, ‘I miss home. I miss the South. And hopefully I’ll land somewhere in Florida.’ I sure hope Jacksonville takes him because he’s such a great kid, such a good player and would be so thrilled to come back to the South.”"
The move would make sense for both sides. Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert will be involved in a quarterback competition, but neither guy will do enough to get fans excited about the team. Bringing in Tebow would excite the “Tebow-ites” in Florida and bring a whole new atmosphere to Jaguars games.
Then there is the Shad Khan factor. He’s the owner of the Jaguars who absolutely loves himself some Timmy Terrific. Khan could be so enamored with bringing in Tebow that he ignores any reason from his football guys and pulls the trigger to bring Tebow home to Florida.
If any intelligence prevails, then Tebow would have two more chances to go home — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins.
The Buccaneers could use depth at quarterback and the Dolphins could use any quarterback at this point. Miami did recently sign David Garrard, but it is a non-guaranteed contract, so the team could easily bring in Tebow and give Garrard the boot. Also, never forget, the Dolphins aren’t shy about celebrities and Tebow is more of a celebrity at this point than a football player.
Whatever happens with Tebow, a circus is sure to follow. If Tebow gets his wish, he will be playing with a Florida team next season. However, it is not up to him. The Broncos control his fate.
Will this be Tim Tebow’s theme song for the offseason?
