New York Jets Players Not Excited For The Start Of Tebowmania

Newly acquired quarterback Tim Tebow will officially be introduced as a member of the New York Jets during a press conference on Monday. Tebow has receive a king’s welcome in New York and it is unprecedented attention for a guy who is coming in to play back up quarterback and run the option in certain situations.

Today, in the New York Post, Brian Costello revealed that he spoke with multiple Jets players who seem unhappy with the situation. He wrote:

"All of the attention on Tebow has some Jets shaking their heads. Several current Jets, who spoke with The Post Saturday, asked not to be quoted but expressed disbelief at the team bringing Tebow in. The idea of a backup quarterback having a press conference is something they can’t wrap their heads around, and they know it’s just the beginning."

Former Jet Damian Woody actually had the stones to attach his name to some quotes and he shares the belief that the Tebow circus is already becoming larger than life.

“How many times has a backup quarterback had a press conference?” Woody said. “How many times have there been helicopters to meet a backup quarterback at the airport? The organization is saying he’s the backup quarterback. Well, then why do you feel like you have to have a press conference? Why not just do a conference call and call it a day?

“It’s a marketing ploy.”

You have to agree with that. The Jets are setting themselves up for a situation that can destroy the team. There is already the issue of a divided locker room, so makes absolutely no sense that the organization would bring in the most polarizing figure in the sport. No one will split a locker room like Tim Tebow.

“How do you manage a natural disaster?” Woody said. “People say they’re preparing for an earthquake. No, you’re not. There’s no way to prepare for it. Once it happens, it creates devastation. It’s the same thing here. They talk about being prepared for it. No, you’re not because you’ve never experienced it before. They have no idea.”

The Jets have had problems with “anonymous sources” speaking out against the team in the past and it looks like we are headed down that dangerous road again. Whatever happens, we know that it likely will not be a happy ending for anyone involved.
