Could Hines Ward Join Georgia Bulldogs Coaching Staff?
By Josh Sanchez
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward announced his retirement last week and he is now looking to start the next chapter of his life. What could that be? Well, Ward has said in the past that he would love to coach and his alma mater Georgia Bulldogs could be a fit.
Ward was speaking on Atlanta television earlier in the year and said that coaching at Georgia would welcome joining Georgia head coach Mark Richt’s coaching staff.
“If he wants to hire me, hire me,” Ward said. “That would be my ultimate dream job to come back and coach at the University of Georgia.”
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Ward attended the University of Georgia spring practice wearing “a black and white Georgia hat, a gray and red pullover and black and red shorts.” He was there to observe and see how the college game still appeals to him.
“He’s just trying to see if that’s something he wants to go into,” said Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. “He’s going to spend some time over here, a couple of days to see what all we do. Not just out there in practice, but to see, hey, what do you do out there in recruiting, kind of see if that’s something he wants to do, kind of like when coaches come and visit.”
If Ward truly is interested in coaching at Georgia, the Bulldogs staff should immediately welcome on board. Anytime you can give college athletes a chance to learn from a Hall of Fame caliber wide receiver, it is a good move.
