As an avid WWE fan, I’m really looking forward to Wrestlemania tonight. Daydreaming while I was working, I started thinking – what if the NFL had it’s own version of Wrestlemania? What would that be like? Well, wonder no more. Here’s my take on a possible card featuring notable NFL figures.
1. 3 on 1 Handicap Match – Bernard Pollard vs Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski & Wes Welker
Pollard’s been involved in injuries to all three of these Patriots players and now they’re out for revenge. However, Terrell Suggs does a run-in and takes out Tom Brady allowing Pollard to get a stunning upset victory.
2. Battle Of The Media Tag Team Match – Jason LaCanfora & Rich Eisen vs Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen
This one gets ugly fast as the ring is stormed by employees from both sides. Ends in a no-decision when everyone realises they’ve not checked their blackberrys in ten minutes and head back to the locker room.
3. Jerry Rice vs Deion Sanders
The bitter rivalry that resulted in Sanders leaving San Fran is renewed. The battle is eventually won by Rice when Steve Young makes a surprise appearance and distracts Sanders. Rice then rolls him up for a quick pin.
4. Bounty vs Salary Cap Battle – Sean Payton & Gregg Williams vs Mike Shanahan and Jerry Jones with Special Guest Referee Roger Goodell
This bout comes with a stipulation – the winning team gets to have their punishment revoked. The match ends in a no-decision when James Harrison comes out and spears Goodell.
5. Cage Match – Warren Sapp vs Jeremy Shockey
This match is the one that steals the show. A back and forth encounter with both men fighting tooth and nail, it looks like Sapp is going to win by climbing out of the cage. Brett Favre shows up and stops Sapp by holding his feet allowing Shockey to escape the cage and win.
6. Brett Favre vs Aaron Rodgers
At the conclusion of the Sapp/Shockey match, Aaron Rodgers shows up and challenges Favre to a match. At first Favre agrees and battles Rodgers but then leaves the ring and is counted out. He comes back and Rodgers agrees to fight him again. Favre then leaves again. Favre comes back one more time. Rodgers beats him a third time.
7. Main Event – Andre Johnson vs Cortland Finnegan
In the rematch of the now infamous bout between these two on the football field, Finnegan is no match for Johnson who’s just too fast. Knowing he can’t win, Finnegan hits Johnson with a low blow. Johnson wins by disqualification but Finnegan claims victory as he was never beaten. A final deciding bout is now being negotiated.
So, how did you like it? Just a bit of fun but it is an interesting way to look at some of the feuds we’ve had in the NFL at different times. As always, feel free to comment below or message me @chrissmithsz on Twitter.
