Mike Mayock Believes Stanford TE Coby Fleener Is A Second-Round Talent

NFL Draft guru Mike Mayock recently gave his opinion on the top-rated tight end in the 2012 NFL Draft class. When speaking of Stanford’s Coby Fleener, Mayock said that he believes the tight end should be taken in the second-round.

“Ability wise, he’s a second-rounder,” Mayock said. “This kid is not a trained killer. He’s not a great blocker.”

Mayock did add that he wouldn’t be surprised if Fleener jumped into the bottom of the first-round and that he expects him to be picked somewhere from 28th overall to 40th overall. Where will Fleener make the most impact in the NFL game? It will be with his receiving skills.

“He’s got very good hands and can get vertical. He should get bigger and stronger in an NFL building, and ultimately he’s going to be a weapon in the pass game.”

Many draft analysts have jumped on the Fleener hype train after his very impressive Pro Day, where he weighed in at 247-pounds and clocked an unofficial 4.45 in the 40-yard dash. There is very little doubt that Fleener will be the first tight end off the board. On top of his stellar 40 time, Fleener had a vertical jump of 37 inches and a broad jump in excess of ten feet. The athleticism is there.

Fleener, along with 25 other top draft prospects, will be in attendance for the NFL Draft in New York City. He may have to wait a few hours to hear his name called, but it should be within the drafts top 40 selections.
