NFL Draft 2012: AFC South First-Round Draft Grades

Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck

A-

You simply have to make this pick if your the Colts, no matter what. The decision was made by the FO some time ago, and it was the sound decision to make. Luck should be a leader for this franchise for as long as Manning was.

Houston Texans

Whitney Mercilus

B

The Texans draft a competent replacement for Mario Williams on the outside. Mercilus may or may not be the person people expect him to be, but there’s no denying his upside is enormous. Given where they were able to select him in the draft, this pick should be considered of solid value.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Justin Blackmon

B-

I understand that Blackmon was the highest rated receiver in this years draft, but I honestly believe the Jaguars would not have had to trade up to get him. The move smacks of desperation to prove the franchise was right on the Gabbert pick.

Tennessee Titans

Kendall Wright, Baylor

C+

Coach Munchak and GM Webster said it came down to a matter of Wright’s ability to make plays when all was said and done. I can’t help but feel as though DeCastro would have turned this  offensiveline into  a top five unit.
