Ben Roethlisberger Expects Steelers To Run No-Huddle, Pass First Offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be under the direction of new offensive coordinator Todd Haley for the 2012-13 NFL season and the man running the offense expects a new philosophy. Ben Roethlisberger met with Haley and expects the Steelers to stray away from the power running offense that is traditionally associated with Pittsburgh.

Roethlisberger expects the team to take advantage of weapons like Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders, while using a pass-heavy offense.

“In these meetings I’ve had with coach Haley he’s all about the no-huddle, and using our wide receiver weapons, and throwing the ball, and stuff like that,” Roethlisberger said on the Rich Eisen Podcast. “So I’m still confused [about the run-heavy perception].”

During his time with the Arizona Cardinals, Haley’s offense ranked second in pass attempts in the league. When you couple that with the fact that the Steelers are expected to be without leading rusher Rashard Mendenhall for a majority of the season, it makes sense that Pittsburgh would focus on airing the ball out to their explosive weapons.

How would a heavy passing attack help the Steelers during their run at a division title?
