London Fletcher: Roger Goodell Had To Send A Strong Message With Bountygate

The Bountygate scandal is one of the most contentious and dividing issues the NFL has had to deal with in years and the severe penalties handed out by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell have sparked much debate and opinion on just where the NFL’s focus should be.

With all the talk that the reaction to Bountygate penalties is split between current players who think the game shouldn’t change and the ex-players who believe changes must be made for the good of everyone, there is one current player siding with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

London Fletcher, inside linebacker for the Washington Redskins and veteran of 13 seasons, spoke up on the subject whilst in an interview on ESPN 980 with Chris Russell.

Despite all the propaganda you may be hearing, Fletcher is not alone in this opinion. This issue is NOT split the way that mainstream media has been proclaiming and in fact there are quite a few current players who are fully in favor of the penalties passed down for the Bountygate affair.

End of the day, it is a privilege to play in the NFL and players will indeed do anything to belong there. What must be considered is that there are measures that can be taken to make the game safer. While players like Roddy White may tell you they are willing to accept any price to play, the same cannot be said for all and the voice of players like London Fletcher must be recognised.
