Joe Flacco May Play Out Final Year Of Rookie Contract Without Extension

Earlier in the offseason, it appeared that the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco were set to negotiate a long-term extension. However, it appears that the two sides remain very far apart and Flacco could end up playing the final year of his rookie deal without the expected extension.

According to a Baltimore Sun report, negotiations with star running back Ray Rice have taken the precedence.

You can’t blame the Ravens for their stance. Flacco has not developed over the past few years and he remains to play at a level of mediocrity. Rice and the Ravens defense have carried the team, while Flacco has held back their progress.

If Flacco wishes to lock up a long-term deal, he needs to show the team this season that he is more than capable of becoming their franchise quarterback. If Flacco remains to be a middle of the pack quarterback, it is possible that the Ravens could look a new direction in 2013.
