Greg Schiano Is Just What The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Need
By Josh Sanchez
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off of a disappointing season in 2011 and they will be doing so with a new man running the show — former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. The feeling around the locker room is that the team is entering OTA’s with an entire new sense of intensity and Schiano is to thank.
“He’s very demanding, and I think that’s a good thing for this football team,” Buccaneers veteran cornerback Ronde Barber said on NFL Total Access. “He has come in and really put an emphasis on a lot of details. We line up for stretching and we’re on the line — that’s something I haven’t had since I was in college ball, but he has high expectations for us and you really just have to appreciate what he puts into the job. I think we have a lot of guys right now who are buying into it. He has a saying, the quicker we buy in the quicker we win. And it feels like we’re doing that right now.”
According to Barber, Schiano’s toughness is just what the doctor ordered for the Bucs. After having a lackadaisical approach last season thanks to “player’s coach” Raheem Morris, Tampa Bay needs a hard-nosed guy like Schiano.
“We were very uncompetitive, and it got a good friend of mine, our coach, Raheem, fired,” Barber said.
It will be interesting to see if Schiano’s intensity and toughness translates into a more impressive on-field product for the Buccaneers in 2012.
