Steelers Cornerback Keenan Lewis Is Favorite To Start Opposite Ike Taylor
By Josh Sanchez
The Pittsburgh Steelers have had their fair share of issues in the secondary, specifically at cornerback, over the past few seasons. Now that starting cornerback William Gay left in free agency to the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh will turn to a trio of inexperienced players to fill the void opposite Ike Taylor.
The trio of corners — Keenan Lewis, Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown — have a total of one NFL start between them.
“It’s going to be interesting,” Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said last week of the competition. “It will probably go on into training camp and some actual game competition before that sorts itself out. I feel good about what I’ve seen here so far.”
At 26-years-old, Lewis is the elder of Allen and Brown by three years. He has more experience in the defense and has seen the most playing time as a part of the team’s rotation in 2011.
It is going to be a heated and fun battle to watch in training camp, but expect Lewis to have the early edge.
