Cleveland Browns Lower Asking Price For Colt McCoy

It seems all but certain that rookie Brandon Weeden will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2012. As a result, Colt McCoy has been placed on the trading block and it is looking like the Browns will accept very little in return. The Browns are hoping to trade McCoy instead of releasing him before the season.

ESPN’s Tony Grossi says that the move is being made as a bit of a good will move towards McCoy and that the Browns want to avoid “piling on” McCoy. Grossi wrote, “They were sensitive to the fact that he had gotten such a raw deal already.”

Would there be any potential suitors for McCoy’s services? Absolutely. He has the ability to be a solid backup and still has untapped potential. His arm may not be the strongest, but McCoy has the accuracy you look for in your team’s signal-caller.

During the draft, the Green Bay Packers and Browns reportedly discussed a potential trade for McCoy, but the talks died down. It’s possible that with the Browns now seeking minimal compensation that the talks could pick up again. The Packers are just one of many teams that will likely make a phone call to Cleveland.
