In 2005 the Dallas Cowboys used their two first-round draft picks on what they thought would be focal points of their defense for
years to come. Those players? DeMarcus Ware, outside linebacker, and Marcus Spears, defensive end.
“I haven’t put up the gaudy sack numbers or (lived up to) the first-round hype that you get especially being drafted with DeMarcus Ware,” he told The Dallas Morning News on Saturday night. “But I’ve been doing my job for a long time at a high level and hopefully can continue to do that on the side I’m used to.”
Marcus Spears was moved from the left side to the right side, that led to a season with 29 tackles and one sack, a grossly underproductive year for him. He described it as “uncomfortable.” Spears, who was at Josh Howard’s charity basketball game described the transition as asking a right-handed shooter to shoot left-handed.
“It was a new position I’ve never played before. I’m a team guys and tried to do whatever helped us win, but I had some problems with it,” Spears said. “It’s like telling a right-handed shooter to shoot left-handed. It was completely different.”
But he is set to return to the left side in 2012 and is looking to have a rebound year.
“It’s like I’m finally home. I feel comfortable and we all love to feel comfortable,” he said. “Thank God I’m back over there at home.
