Michael Floyd Receiving Praise From Larry Fitzgerald

Arizona Cardinals first-round pick Michael Floyd instantly made his presence felt on the practice field during rookie minicamps and OTAs. Whether it be his teammates or coaches, it seemed that everyone was singing Floyd’s praise. Floyd will open up the season as the team’s second wide receiver opposite of Larry Fitzgerald.

How does Fitzgerald feel about sharing the field with Floyd? Well, Fitzgerald is one of the teammates that has been praising Floyd’s ability.

“Well Mike has really made some plays throughout the camp. He really looked good in our Saturday practice out at the stadium making a couple of plays. He consistently catches the ball. He’s strong and physical at the ling of scrimmage. He’s an intelligent young man. He’s really picking up and grasping things,” Fitzgerald said, per Sports Radio Interviews.

“Coach [Mike] Miller [Cardinals Offensive Coordinator] will tell him one thing one time in a meeting and the next day you see him apply on the field. It’s really nice to see a young guy take coaching in the classroom and apply immediately on the football field. I have seen him do that a couple of times.”

Fitzgerald seems very optimistic about the entire group of receivers saying, “I’m really excited about our receiving core and I think we are going to be a forced to be reckoned with when we open up.”

While Fitzgerald is high on Floyd’s talent, there has to be some concern regarding the rookies ability to stay strong throughout the entire season. You also have to worry about a rookies mentality, so will Fitzgerald take the time to mentor the team’s young wideout?

“I am always willing to help him because I know I would have been a much better player if I had a 7,8,9 year veteran that would have been able to teach me about coverages and routes and things like that,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s one thing for me to coach it, but it’s different from seeing it from here and being able to relay it to you in real time.”

“I think I can definitely be a big advantage to him and he utilizes me. He asks me questions. He asks coaches questions. He’s eager. He wants to learn. He wants to improve on that willingness that he has right now and it’s going to pay dividends for him throughout his career.”

If Floyd continues to shine, he is well on his way to a solid career. If he can utilize a presence like Fitzgerald, then he will be able to fully maximize his talents and stake his claim as the most talented wideout in the 2012 NFL Draft class.
