Drew Brees Remains Confident A Long Term Deal Will Get Done
By Josh Sanchez
The New Orleans Saints have been the topic of much discussion this offseason and for good reason. Of course, you have Bountygate, but there is an even bigger issue that the Saints are facing and that is the contract situation of franchise quarterback Drew Brees.
Brees does not want to sign the team’s one-year franchise tender. Instead, he wants them to give him the long-term deal that he has earned.
Brees was on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike in the Morning today and opened up about the contract situation. He stated that he and the Saints are involved in “ongoing discussions,” and that he believes a deal will long-term deal will get done.
“I’ve always said, you’d think this process should be a lot more simple than it is,” Brees said. “It just always seems to be complicated. But I’m still very confident we’ll get a long-term deal done, and hopefully that’ll happen sooner than later.
“I’m very aware of where the Saints are at and certainly where I’m at. All of the discussions that take place are between my agent Tom Condon and Mickey Loomis, the general manager for the Saints. But obviously I know exactly what’s going on.”
Both sides remain far apart on financial details, but it seems like they are working hard towards getting a deal done — and the Saints need to secure Brees’ services.
Let’s face it, with the suspensions and scandals, the Saints have had as bad of an offseason as you could imagine. If they don’t lock up Brees, it will take their offseason to a whole new level of disaster.
