Peyton Manning Turned Down $25 Million A Year To Join Denver Broncos

This biggest story of this NFL offseason was the potential landing spots for then free agent future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. In the end, it came down to two teams fighting for Manning’s services — the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos. Many believed that Manning would go with the team that offered him the biggest pay day, but it looks like that was not the case.

Per ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Titans owner Bud Adams didn’t just offer Manning a contract “for life,” but he also offered him a $25 million per year salary. For those counting at home, that is $6 million more than the Broncos offered.

It looks like Manning felt better about making one final run with the Broncos than the Titans. This news could also influence contract talks of another NFL signal-caller.

This could just be some talk thrown out into the media by agent Tom Condon, who represents both Manning and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Brees is trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the Saints brass, so this nugget of information could cause the Saints to up their offer just a bit.

The Saints are currently offering Brees s $250,000 more than Manning will make, which is the richest average salary in NFL history. Brees would like to surpass $20 million a year and he still has a few days to get that deal he seeks.
