Drew Brees Signs 5 Year Contract With New Orleans Saints
By Chris Smith
There is one less drama in New Orleans today as star quarterback Drew Brees has come to an agreement on a new five year contract worth $100 million.
The new contract includes a mammoth $60 million guaranteed and Brees will be paid $40 million in the first year of the deal which will easily make him the highest paid player for a single calendar year in NFL history.
UPDATE: The overall structure of the deal looks pretty simple according to NFL Business Analyst Andrew Brandt:

As for cap impact, Pro Football Talk has crunched the numbers:

We have heard so much news regarding this potential deal with only yesterday a story coming out that Brees and the Saints were still $10 million apart but it appears that perhaps that story was unfounded. It may be Friday the 13th but today will forever be considered a lucky day in the life of Drew Brees – and hopefully for the Saints and their fans also.
