Tight end Martellus Bennett is now a member of the New York Giants but he wasn’t always a member of Big Blue. Prior to joining the Giants in free agency, Bennett spent the first years of his career as a member of the rival Dallas Cowboys. Now that he is in his first day of Giants camp, Bennett is motivated and excited to get a shot at his former team.
“I just want to kick those guys’ asses. That’s what it’s all about. We’re cool but we ain’t that cool,” Bennett said, via the New York Post. “I’ve kind of got some ill feelings toward them overall. But it’s a game. Every game is the same where I kind of hate everybody, honestly, in the NFL.”
Bennett’s hate doesn’t just focus on the Cowboys. In fact, Bennett says that his hatred runs league wide.
“I have ill feelings toward everybody. It’s not just Dallas,” he said. “, pretty much anybody who doesn’t play with us, I pretty much, I don’t like ‘em. I don’t like a lot of people. I’m kind of , but it’s cool.”
But hey, even if Bennett describes himself as a jerk filled with hatred, he still gets giddy like a child when it comes to getting ready for the season.
“Super excited to play football. Couldn’t sleep last night because I got so excited,” he said. “I almost drove down here in the middle of the night but the wife told me I couldn’t.”
Bennett has been an under achiever early in his career but he hopes that he will be able to revive his career in New York. Bennett is still very raw but he does possess the athletic ability to make an impact in the league. If he can turn his “hatred” into motivation going into the season, he could be in store for a breakout season.
As for his former Cowboys team that he now hates, he will get to face them in the season opener on September 5th.
