Blaine Gabbert Looks Good In Jaguars Preseason Opener

Things haven’t gone well for the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the 2012 season.

First, their 2012 first round draft pick Justin Blackmon gets arrested on DUI charges in June, and then proceeds to hold out at the start of training camp.  Then, star running back Maurice Jones-Drew is holding out because he wants a new contract, and isn’t expected to report to the team until September at the earliest.

And then, to top it all off, Jacksonville offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski says that the team’s passing game isn’t getting better. It just seems as if things are going from bad to worse for Jacksonville so the team’s first preseason game may have been a blessing in disguise for the Jaguars and their fans.

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert and the Jaguars offense came out firing early in their first game of the year against the defending world champion New York Giants.

Gabbert completed four of his first six passes on the team’s opening drive of the game, including a three-yard touchdown pass to Cecil Shorts.  It capped off a 13-play, 88-yard opening drive for the Jaguars.

Gabbert went just 1-of-4 for the rest of his time in the game. He played three series total for the Jaguars. However, his second series lasted just one play due to a Shorts fumble on an end-around.

They always say that a quarterback makes the first big leap between his first and second season.  If Friday night was any indication, Gabbert may finally be starting to find his groove.
