St Louis Rams Withdraw From London Home Games
By Chris Smith
Maybe it’s time to rethink the possibility of the St Louis Rams moving to London…
Today the embattled franchise announced that it was withdrawing from it’s “home” games in London for 2013 and 2014 that had been agreed to earlier this season. They will have one game in Britain however as the New England Patriots are set to join the Rams in London October 28th.
The main thought regarding this move is that the Rams are pushing hard to consolidate their position at home as the team’s lease has only two more years left to run and they are pushing hard to get a new stadium project off the ground to remain in St Louis for many years to come as indicated in the team’s statement:
"“Moving forward, we believe our attention needs to be on the ongoing (Edward Jones Dome) First Tier process. We have worked closely with the NFL in coming to this decision and remain key supporters of the International Series and its’ objectives.”"
So far there has been no comment from NFL front office about a possible replacement for the St Louis team but it is understood that this setback will not stop the NFL’s push to have games in the United Kingdom.
