Matt Flynn To Start, Russell Wilson To Backup For Seahawks Against Broncos
If it isn’t broke, why fix it.
After a good performance in their preseason opener against Tennessee, the Seahawks have decided to go with the same quarterback rotation in week two of the preseason against Denver on Saturday. It will be Matt Flynn in the first half, and Russell Wilson in the second.
In his first game action since signing a 3-year, $19-million contract in the offseason, Flynn looked like he was grasping the offense pretty well. He went 11-of-13 for 71 yards, but did throw an interception when trying to force a short pass to Ben Obomanu.
And even though he didn’t lead his team to a touchdown, he did show signs that he was capable of leading the team into the regular season as “the guy”.
As far as Wilson goes, the 2012 3rd round pick turned some heads in his first half of professional football.
The former Wisconsin Badger went 12-of-16 throwing for 128 yards and a touchdown. He did however throw one interception, but made up for it with a 32-yard touchdown run to put his team up by 10 late in the fourth quarter.
While a very good second half performance against players listed three and four on the depth chart won’t give Wilson the starting job after one week, it certainly makes the race closer.
If Wilson can perform the same way against Denver, then he may earn a shot with the starters for a game. If not, it’ll help Flynn pull away with the job.
No matter what happens though, it seems as if the race for the starting QB position in Seattle has become a two horse race. Sorry, Tavares Jackson.
