Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars First Team Offense Shines Against Saints
It’s only preseason, but I really don’t think anyone expected this.
After an impressive start in their preseason opener against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants, Jacksonville has once again looked better than expected. This time at the expense of the New Orleans Saints.
The only difference between this week and last is that this week the Jaguars kept the great start going.
Even without arguably their best player in Maurice Jones-Drew, the Jaguars first team offense managed to drive down on the Saints defense and put up 17 points on their first
Current starting running back Rashad Jennings ran the ball eight times for 54 yards. It won’t make Jacksonville or their fans forget about Jones-Drew being absent, but it will certainly help ease the pain. Even backup RB Montell Owens got in on the action, putting up 31 yards on six carries as of this writing.
Second year quarterback Blaine Gabbert looked like a well-oiled machine during his time on the field for the Jaguars. He went 13-of-16 for 112 yards and two touchdowns in what was by far his best performance in his short NFL career.
Seventh overall draft pick Justin Blackmon even showed the separation skill that the Jaguars sorely lacked before Blackmon signed and reported to camp. He finished with three catches for 36 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown catch on the team’s opening drive.
With all the question marks surrounding the Jaguars offense heading into the preseason, Jacksonville is starting to make people take notice that they may be on to something.
Now if they could just get Jones-Drew to report to the team.
