Fantasy Football: Maurice Jones-Drew Says Take Him #1 Overall
By Chris Smith
During a teleconference call I was on this week sponsored by DIRECTV, Maurice Jones-Drew was asked several times about his status with the Jacksonville Jaguars – a hot topic of discussion given that MJD has continued to hold out for a new contract this offseason and having recently declared he was open to a trade. The answers he gave were rather revealing.
"“To all the fantasy players out there, I encourage you to pick me #1. I always pick myself #1 in every fantasy draft and I’ll be doing it this year.”"
When pushed on the subject, Jones-Drew expanded just a little on his current relationship with Jacksonville’s management and made it pretty clear he thought he’d stay in Jacksonville:
"“I think things are going to work out.”"
Let’s make something clear here – the comments were made during a fantasy discussion and as such the indications given may have simply been pandering on his part. Maurice Jones-Drew is well known as a friend of fantasy and may simply have been trying to appeal to the fan base. However, it has to be noted also that MJD takes fantasy rather seriously and you can guess that he wouldn’t deliberately tank his fantasy teams by taking himself overall so there is a certain validity to what he says.
DIRECTV allows you to follow all your fantasy teams using their unique player tracker and for the first time ever let’s you link directly to your own fantasy teams so you can track your own fantasy players on gameday. The only way to get this is with DIRECTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket which is available now.
