Jovan Belcher Kills Girlfriend, Commits Suicide at Kansas City Chiefs Facility

UPDATE: The player involved was Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, per NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. He was reportedly confronted by coaches in the parking lot before putting the gun to his head and taking his life.

It is a very sad, unfortunate situation. The couple had a three month old child that will be left behind after this senseless loss of life. Thoughts go out to everyone affected by the tragedy.

There was a very scary and sad situation this morning at the Kansas City Chiefs team facility. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports initially reported that a player was shot at the facility and KCTV5 News had more details.

"The first shooting was reported about 8 a.m. at a home near 54th Street and Chrysler Avenue. The second shooting was reported a short time later at a Chiefs practice facility located on the Arrowhead facility.Officials said the Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend and then drove to the practice facility where he shot and killed himself."

The player involved has not had his name released but rumors have been circulating. We will not post the player’s name until it has been 100% confirmed.

The Chiefs organization has issued a statement on the incident:

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”
