It has long been rumored that the Kansas City Chiefs were interested in San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. And now it seems that a trade has been completed according to Jay Glazer.
Jay Glazer, and NFL insider tweeted out “49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can’t be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith”
And he followed that up with this tweet: “Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I’m told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.”
Andy Reid was recently quoted as saying he liked the mobility Alex Smith showed and thought he’d fit in well. This essentially means the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t interested in drafting Geno Smith overall. They could turn their attention to Luke Joeckel, an offensive tackle, to replace Branden Albert.
Tim Kawakami tweeted: “An NFL source says that the framework of the deal is that the 49ers will get a No. 2 pick this year and a similar pick in the 2014 draft.”
Certainly a high price when you have the #1 pick and Geno Smith available. But the San Francisco 49ers have to be thrilled to have acquired a high second round pick. Fansided’s Josh Sanchez suggests that the 49ers could put together a nice package to entice the New York Jets to trade for Darrelle Revis.
“An interesting 49ers note: San Francisco will now have extra draft picks to package in a potential deal for New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis.”
