Cliff Avril left the Detroit Lions to sign a two year $15 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Cliff Avril joined KJR in Seattle to discuss why he chose the Seahawks over the Lions, who coincidentally signed the player he is replacing, Jason Jones.

“We played these guys last year and I saw the kind of team they had. I got to pick whatever team I would be able to go to and I liked what I had seen on the field,” Avril said, via Sports Radio Interviews. “A lot of young guys that loved the game and smart guys that understood the game and they were professional at such a young age. And also the 12th man. All that played a big factor in me wanting to come out here.”

He’s used to being part of a young team with potential. The Detroit Lions had an impressive season

“Seattle just caught my eye with all these other positive aspects of the team and they’re a winning team, so it gives me a chance to go out and have fun.”

With Michael Bennett signing with the Seahawks as well, they look poised to have one of the best defenses in the league. Avril is excited to be in Seattle, and he thinks the NFL is buzzing about the Seahawks.

“I like what I see. It’s nothing like it’s portrayed to the rest of the country as far as just raining all the time and all that good stuff, but the city is awesome and the team is awesome as far as the direction it’s headed in. I can definitely see why players want to come out here.”
