Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford follows Darrius Heyward-Bey
Former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey left his visit with the Indianapolis Colts without a contract, and the Indy Star believes that Heyward-Bey will most likely sign elsewhere. The 26-year-old has drawn interest from the New York Jets and Detroit Lions, and Heyward-Bey will actually visit the Lions today.

He would be an excellent fit for the Lions, because Heyward-Bey will give them exactly what they need. The expected release of Titus Young and the injury to Ryan Broyles have created a big need for the Lions as far as adding another quality wide receiver into the mix goes. Heyward-Bey fits that bill, and the Lions especially need a receiver who can stretch the field vertically. A true speed-demon, DHB does exactly that and would thus be a terrific fit for a Lions team that tries to do everything they can to surround Matthew Stafford with ample offensive talent.
Speaking of Stafford, MLive.com’s Justin Rogers astutely observes that the Detroit Lions star quarterback is now following Darrius Heyward-Bey on Twitter, and Stafford already foreshadowed the signing of all-purpose back Reggie Bush earlier this offseason. Stafford is our Lions Nostradamus right now, and it will be interesting to see if he has indeed predicted the next Lions signing and his new deep threat on offense.
He could also be trying to trick us or just following a wideout stopping by for a visit to Detroit. But the fit makes sense, there is some “evidence” now that Stafford is following him, and Heyward-Bey is indeed in Motown for a visit. The dots all connect, and this is something to watch for later on today.
