The Arizona Cardinals are looking to upgrade their quarterback situation and view Carson Palmer as the answer. The Oakland Raiders are looking to move forward without Palmer and see the Cardinals as a trade partner.
Kent Somers tweeted: “Carson Palmer was in Arizona Monday night, had dinner with #azcardinals execs.”
That sounds more like a free agent meeting, than something a player on the trade market does. Well it’s probably because there will need to be some financial work done to make the deal work.
Palmer is set to make $13 million this season, and the Cardinals see Palmer’s value at around $8 million per season. Palmer would need to restructure his deal to work it out. Otherwise he could force the Raiders to release him by refusing to restructure his deal.
He might be interested in forcing his release. There are rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are Palmer’s preferred destination. But the Arizona Cardinals seem more desperate and more willing to go after the quarterback.
In his two seasons in Oakland he went 8-16. But the stability he’ll bring Arizona will keep them from recruiting quarterbacks off the street in the middle of December. He almost might be more equipped to take advantage of Larry Fitzgerald’s services.
