California’s wide receiver Keenan Allen was getting a lot of attention ahead of the draft. Some teams ham him rated as the best wide receiver available in the draft. ESPN.com’s Mel Kiper Jr. has allen ranked 4th among the potential receivers, but has him being drafted in the second round.

That could possibly happen as his draft stock is about to take a hit.

Allen “was red-flagged for a drug test at the scouting combine in Indianapolis and ordered to undergo another test this month, league sources have said” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter says that Allen’s Agent J.T. Johnson has denied that he has failed any drug test. Which usually means that a sample was extremely diluted. People taking drug tests will often drink large amounts of fluids, water in particular, to ‘flush’ their systems clean. However, those who administer drug tests can tell when a sample has been diluted in various ways, including levels of different substances like ‘creatine’ and obviously color.

That could be the difference between failing and being red-flagged, hence the mandatory follow-up test.

He is already overcoming knee issues and this is another hit his draft stock will have to whether. Off field issues have caused players in the past to drop as teams determine whether they’re worth the investment.
