The NFL has one of the biggest events in their calendar year coming up in 9 days, the draft. It’s at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In a city that has been the target of terrorist attacks before, and coming on the heels of a sporting event being targeted in Boston.

“The NFL and its clubs have operated with a very high level of security since 9/11 for all of our games and events,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells Pro Football Talk.  “For next week’s NFL Draft, we will review and enhance our already comprehensive security plans with the NYPD, Radio City and our private security partners.  We will advise the public more specifically next week prior to the Draft.”

The honesty in this situation is that it’s easier for security at an event like this. A 26.2 mile course with hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators out in the public is difficult to control. A event inside a venue like this with limited entrances and exits will be easier to control.

But that is no reason for the NFL to take security any lighter and measures need to be taken to protect those at the NFL Draft.

The hurdle for the NFL is the “red carpet” entrance. Many NFL fans line up and down the street hoping to see their favorite stars and future NFL stars.
