Dallas Morning News has reported that former NFL player and broadcaster Pat Summerall has passed away at the age of 82 in his hospital room in Dallas, Texas, where he was recovering from hip surgery.

Summerall who was drafted as a kicker out of the University of Arkansas, played 10 seasons in the National Football League. Being drafted by the Detroit Lions, being selected 45th in the 4th round of the 1952 draft, played with the Lions for 1 season, Chicago Cardinals for 4 seasons and his final few seasons with the New York Giants.

He was hired by CBS Sports in 1962, working with Chris Schenkel, Jack Buck, Ray Scott and then John Madden.

Every game from my child hood that I seen on TV were usually called by Pat Summerall and John Madden. Commentary for games hasn’t really been the same to me since he announced his retirement in 2002 and since then, nobody else who has been calling games sense, has had my attention like Summerall did.

One of the greats to ever call the game we love so much, from a booth above the field, having the greatest seats in the house, will truly be missed. When we see great players come and go, we always mention how there will never be another player like them, well in this case when it comes to color commentators, there will never be anyone else quite like Pat Summerall.

Thought and Prayers are out to Pat Summerall and his family, along with John Madden who spent 22 amazing seasons together.
