Wide Receivers Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson have some fans in San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner:
Whitner wouldn’t mind seeing either of the veterans lining up at receiver for the Niners. Last season, the 49ers employed Randy Moss at receiver. It wouldn’t be a total surprise to see them bring in a vet to play receiver for them.
Michael Crabtree went down with an injury and is likely out for the season. Vernon Davis is getting some reps out at receiver in his absence because he is one of the few players on the roster that can stretch the field. The 49ers picked up Anquan Boldin, but he isn’t someone to stretch the field.
A player like Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens could definitely compete for a job on the roster. What harm would it really be to bring in one of those vets. Both have done a lot in this league. If the team can tame Randy Moss, then they should be able to handle Chad or Terrell.
