Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis rode off into he sunset with a Super Bowl victory, but we all knew he was not done conquering things just yet.
Lewis set his eyes on Mount Kilimanjaro as his next obstacle, and his first in life after the NFL.
The trip was set to raise money and awareness about the need for clean water in East Africa. Unfortunately for Lewis and the cause, he was unable to make the climb thanks to a fever and foot injury that may require surgery. Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com has the details:
"“Ray stood all day yesterday doing a hearing mission,” trip organizer Frank Gamble said in a video summarizing the climb via The Baltimore Sun. “Last night, he had a bad night, fevered and really rough. So this morning, when he woke up, the foot was killing him, years of injuries and all of that. So we’re going to miss him.”"
We have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see Lewis attempt such a stunt. He starts a broadcasting gig soon, but in his free time we see him trying this and other challenging events more often than not.
Here’s to Ray’s health, and more importantly, here’s to the cause he was attempting to raise awareness about.
