Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles is currently stuck in a battle for the starting quarterback job with the likes of Nick Foles and rookie Matt Barkley.
To some, Vick is the favorite for the job thanks to his experience, athleticsm and fit in the offense.
Apparently there are others who believe Vick could be cut this preseason. Here’s Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly:
"Michael Vick, of course, could be a roster casualty if Kelly is sold on Nick Foles and the promise of Matt Barkley. Felix Jones needs to stay healthy and be productive this camp to make the team, and we all know former first-round pick Danny Watkins is on thin ice."
The Spin: This is a bit of a stretch. Vick would have to be absolutely horrible in camp to earn a spot on the free-agent market. He may not win the job outright—Foles makes faster decisions which is critical in Chip Kelly’s offense. Barkley isn’t going anywhere. But to suggest the Eagles are going to cut a veteran like Vick simply because he loses the starting gig is a bit much.
If the Eagles were to part with Vick it would be a mistake. Most teams are only keeping two quarterbacks these days, but Philadelphia needs to keep all three for at least this year.
