Former Baltimore Ravens fullback Vonta Leach has been attempting to play the NFL free agency market to his advantage by pitting teams like the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants against each other.
The problem is, Leach plays a dying position and is getting up there in age. There are teams in the NFL that don’t even have a fullback on the roster anymore.
Leach has apparently frustrated the Dolphins, but an offer remains on the table from the Giants according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post:
"The Giants have an offer on the table for the fullback, but it’s believed to be for one year and the veteran minimum.“Still status quo with Giants,’’ a source with knowledge of Leach’s status told The Post yesterday. “Wish they had more cap room.’’"
The Spin: Time’s wasting for Leach. The writing is on the wall—NFL teams are not paying for fullbacks anymore. New York’s offer is apparently for close to the vet minimum. Smart betting says Miami has a similar deal on paper.
Leach is great at what he does. If he played any other position he scheme to play the market would have panned out great.
Now he just has to hope he can find a job at all.
