Chicago Bears GM Phil Emery told reporters that the team will not be handing out contract extensions for any of the players during the season. Any of the players that are on the final year of their contracts will have to play it out and will have to earn their paychecks. That means that Jay Cutler will have to wait things out and will become a free agent at the end of the year. It also means that players like Charles Tillman, Corey Wootton, Henry Melton, Tim Jennings and Devin Hester will play for new contracts and could be getting a nice payday. That payday just might come from a different team.

Bears fans have known that Jay Cutler would have to do well to get his payday. The bigger news here is that none of the players will be getting a contract extension during the year. The Bears could lose some good players during the offseason. They will only have one franchise tag to use and they have a few good players that can shop around for a new deal. This will be an interesting upcoming offseason for the team.
