The Cincinnati Bengals are gearing up for an appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks, but some teams are apparently already thinking about making a push for the show next year.
That team happens to be the San Diego Chargers.
The report comes from Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego, who says the team is interested for business implications:
"“We’ve educated ourselves as to what the process is,” CEO A.G. Spanos said. “We’ve talked to other teams that have done the show and gotten feedback on how it’s helped them. Business-wise, every team has been helped by being on the show.”“It’s a very entertaining show,” Executive V.P. of football operations John Spanos said. “I enjoy watching it … Now, everything we do is working toward what gives us the best chance to win. My brother and I work in very different ends of the building. [Hard Knocks] merits a discussion, but you can guess what side of the fence I land on.”"
The Spin: Interesting that of all teams it’s the Chargers that want a shot at the show. Then again, not really. San Diego is always looking for ways to boost revenue and get butts in the seats.
Hard Knocks is a very good way of accomplishing that. The Chargers certainly are not the most interesting team in the NFL, but not many have been open to doing it in the first place. It could help the team from a marketing and financial standpoint, but that may be it.
What do you think about having the Chargers on the show?
