San Francisco 49ers training camp has went off without a hitch so far this year. That is until Wednesday, when both star linebackers Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman went down with injuries.
The good news is Bowman does not sound as if he will be out too long after reportedly straining a groin. The news for Willis is not as positive. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com had the story first:
"Willis sustained an injury to his hand early in practice on Wednesday. After showing some discomfort, he was examined by the team’s medical staff. He had his right hand wrapped in ice and watched the final two hours of practice from the sideline.Fellow All-Pro inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman also sat out the final part of practice Wednesday. He missed Tuesday’s practice due to a groin strain."
The Spin: Bowman is going to be just fine. The focal point needs to be on Willis as it sounds like he has a hand fracture, which is an injury he has now suffered twice in his NFL career.
There is plenty of time for Willis to heal up before the season, and it’s not like he needs the practice reps. If you are a 49ers fan you just have to hope there are no lingering issues. San Francisco’s defense is elite, but losing one of either Bowman or Willis would be a massive blow.
