New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore is losing targets quickly in the Saints offense, and it’s crazy to think that he has just four receptions through three games this season after hauling in 1,000 yards of receiving last year and being a consistent, reliable target for Drew Brees. The addition of Kenny Stills has played a bit of a role in Moore’s steep decline in targets, but the big reason is the fact that there are just so many weapons in the Saints offense. Weapons like Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston, and even Robert Meachem got more receptions than Lance Moore yesterday. Throw in the fact that Darren Sproles is getting significant targets and Pierre Thomas added six receptions against the Arizona Cardinals, and it’s easy to see why there is less and less room for Moore in the offense.

The Saints have a luxury of weapons around Brees, and I wonder if we’ll see Moore’s targets go back up again. But, for now, the biggest thing on our mind’s regarding Moore is his injury, as the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s Katherine Terrell reports that Lance Moore suffered a wrist injury in yesterday’s blowout win and left the game in the second half.

Trainers took a look at Moore’s wrist, but nothing resembling an update has been given on his injury status. Moore caught just one pass for six yards, and he was also only thrown at three times overall. I think we’ll see Moore’s targets approach his previous totals again, but he’s not going to have as big of a role in the New Orleans Saints passing offense as he used to.
