The Tennessee Titans are working out a running back who once played for an AFC South rival in the Indianapolis Colts, as Titans beat writer Terry McCormick reports that the Titans are working out Delone Carter today. Carter was traded by the Colts to the Baltimore Ravens for wide receiver David Reed last month, and Carter was one of the Ravens prominent cuts in the 53-man roster crunchdown. Carter hasn’t received significant interest since, save for this reported workout with the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans are likely doing due diligence on Carter in order to look at depth options at RB with Shonn Greene suffering from a knee injury, but I think they will sign Carter if they really like what he has to offer. Greene’s injury is one reason, but the Titans might also believe that Carter can be an upgrade to Jackie Battle as a goal-line back. Like Battle, all Carter is good at is gaining yards in short-yardage situations, and he’s even more one-dimensional than Battle at that.
I don’t anticipate the Titans signing Delone Carter, unless if they like him enough, view Greene’s injury has serious enough, or just want more depth at RB. Battle is the better player, but he isn’t that much better than Carter either. This workout is something for Titans fans to watch for closely, because Carter could challenge for goal-line carries if he is deemed worth signing.
