The Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears are both set to work out free agent inside linebacker Tavares Gooden, who most recently spent time with the San Francisco 49ers. Gooden tweeted out the workouts today, and he stated that he will work out with the Seahawks today. The date of his work out with the Chicago Bears isn’t known, and all we know is that, based on Gooden’s tweet, it will be after his visit with the Seahawks.

Gooden recorded nine tackles in 15 games last season with the 49ers, and his best season was in 2009 with the Baltimore Ravens in which he put up 47 tackles and defended a pass in 12 games. It was a surprise to see that the 29-year-old backup linebacker was unable to sign anywhere this offseason, especially since he earned workouts from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals in the span of two days in early April.

The main source of the Miami product’s value comes from special teams, and we’ll see if his workouts are good enough to warrant a spot on the 53-man rosters of the Seattle Seahawks or Chicago Bears. Gooden has some talent as a former third-round pick, and there’s usually a nice market for reserve LBs and core special teams players at this point in the season.
