DeMarcus Ware likely out

Dallas Cowboys star DE DeMarcus Ware is supposed to be out for 3-4 weeks with a quadriceps injury he suffered in last week’s win over the Washington Redskins, but the uber-tough defensive playmaker believes he will be back sooner. Ware has not missed a game in his career and knows he heals as fast as anyone (and is as tough as anyone), so forgive him for thinking he can play against another rival in the Philadelphia Eagles today.

Ware is currently listed doubtful on the team’s injury report, but he is going to make himself a game-time decision this afternoon prior to the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports what everyone expected, and that is that DeMarcus Ware is “unlikely to play” against the Eagles.

His absence will hurt, but it won’t be catastrophic by any means. Guys like Jason Hatcher have stepped up big-time as pass rushers, so there should still be some pressure on Nick Foles. Jason Peters will have an easy matchup in front of him if Ware isn’t able to beat the odds, and not facing a pass rusher as good as Ware at the RE spot is certainly a plus for any QB. Players listed doubtful almost never play and Ware is fully expected to miss today’s game, but he is so tough and determined that there are no guarantees.
