The Houston Texans released 3rd round draft pick Sam Montgomery a few days ago for reportedly violating team rules. Three players total were released and Montgomery was one of them that was caught up in the mix. The team violation was believed to be for getting caught smoking weed in the team hotel. Montgomery immediately denied that he was part of it and said that he just walked into the room when things all went down.
In order to prove that he was not part of the mix, he has provided a drug test just days after his release. Check out the results that were obtained by our mothership, Fansided.com:
Montgomery is trying to clear his name and find a new team to sign on with. He already has teams that are interested in bringing him in for a workout and he has scheduled visits tomorrow.
Montgomery was selected in the 3rd round in this year’s draft and has a ton of potential. He was a first round talent that fell to the 3rd round due to some character question marks. This incident didn’t help with the question marks, but he is proving that he wasn’t caught up in the mix with the test results.
Montgomery can help some team out this year. He has potential as a edge rusher. He is quick off the edge and has a motor that does not stop. He will get after the quarterback and can help some team as a nickel pass rusher.
Some team is going to capitalize on the Texans release. The Texans were trying to make a statement by releasing the players, but what happens when the person they released wasn’t guilty of the actions suggested? Someone else benefits from their loss.
