The Detroit Lions are very interested in San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt for the head coaching vacancy, per Ian Rapoport. The Lions are doing there work to get some background information on Whisenhunt, but they will not be able to interview with Whisenhunt until the Chargers are eliminated from the playoffs.
Whisenhunt has turned the Chargers offense around this season and has helped Philip Rivers turn back into an elite quarterback all over again. Rivers struggled with interceptions the two previous seasons and he has done a much better job this year under Whisenhunt.
The Lions will be looking for that kind of help on the offensive side of the football with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. With all that talent on the offensive side of the football, Whisenhunt would have a lot of weapons to work with. Whiz has helped bring the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl with Kurt Warner and he also helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win a Super Bowl as well. He would be a good option for the Lions.
