It was reported earlier this week that San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman would likely interview with the Minnesota Vikings soon, and Roman will indeed receive an interview with the Vikings. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, citing league sources, that the Vikings will interview Roman today for their head coaching vacancy.
Roman is one of the more attractive names on the open market right now, and his creativity on offense makes him one of the most well-respect offensive coordinators in the game. He’s also viewed as head coaching material by some teams, and he was even a candidate for the Penn State Nittany Lions opening in the college ranks.
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is viewed as the favorite for the Vikings gig, but the likes of Darrell Bevell, Tod Bowles, and Dan Quinn have received significant interest as well. It will be interesting to see how Roman’s interview goes today, and I would consider him a top candidate for the Vikings job. He’s a slightly better offensive coordinator than Bevell, who used to work for the Vikings, and he does a very good job of developing quarterbacks. One knock on Roman is that he can get too cute, but many great offensive coordinators are also accused of that. Roman is a top candidate, and he looks like the best option for the Vikings if they want to go with an offense-minded head coach.
